Meet the Author

Katherine Weitz is a lifelong Virginian and a lifetime learner. For more than twenty-five years as she and her husband Rick educated their six children at home, she pursued a classical education for herself as well. In addition to her own children, she has taught a number of other students, both online and in the classroom. She delights in guiding students in the art of composition and inspiring them to love all aspects of the English language – especially the beauty and humanity found in poetry and literature, and the logic and order revealed by the analysis and diagramming of well-written sentences.

Katherine holds an M.A. in Christian and Classical Studies from Knox Seminary, a Certificate in Classical Education from University of Dallas, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literature at Faulkner University. She serves as the Dean of Academics at Loudoun Classical School, a collegiate model Christian classical school, where she has taught Arts & Letters Literature and Latin. She also serves as an adjunct professor of Rhetoric at Patrick Henry College. Previously, she was Director of Curriculum Development at Providence Prep, where she also taught high school Great Books, Latin, and English Studies classes. You can read musings and reflections from her years of home education at The Reading Mother.

As the Lord grants years, Katherine looks forward to the continued pursuit of a life well-read. She particularly delights in sharing her love of books with her grandchildren. Though she is now officially a home educator emerita, life is still full with the joys and concerns of church, family, and local community. For all these things, and more, she is grateful to the Giver of all good things.

“The best place to start is with this kind of humble and ongoing repentance, intertwined with daily diligence, beginning with our own pursuit of a life well read. As our children see us seeking to educate ourselves, seeking to love what we ought to love, seeking to know what we ought to know, they are inspired to become lifelong learners as well. If it is worth doing at thirty-something—or forty- or fifty-something—it is certainly worth doing at fifteen!”

Mentoring Services

I have 25+ years of home educating experience, and 15 years of experience in classroom teaching, curriculum development, and co-op administration. My particular emphasis is classical education with a foundation of Charlotte Mason methods. Inspiring teachers and students toward the pursuit of a life well-read is my passion.  I love to help home educators, classroom teachers, and co-op leaders set a course for their students, and then make it happen. Help with long-term vision, short-term solutions, and specific lesson plans are among the services I offer to my clients.

I am also happy to help solve specific problems or give personalized suggestions for implementing particular practices in your homeschool or co-op, such as Morning Time, Picture Study, Latin, Great Books, etc. If you like the things you see here on our Cottage Press website, at our hybrid collegiate style school, Loudoun Classical School, or at our local classical co-op, Providence Prep, and on my personal blog, The Reading Mother, but you are not sure how to make them work in your own home or classroom, I’d be delighted to help.

I offer face-to-face meetings in my Zoom room online (zoom.us), billed at $25 per half hour. Fees are payable via Paypal when you schedule the meeting. Individual arrangements may be made for personalized curriculum and lesson plans.

If you would like to request a consultation, please fill out the form below, and I will send you a link to schedule our meeting.
